Experienced Trainers

Grant Butler, Managing Director

As Editor Group's founder, Grant is our longest-serving trainer and provides both media and business writing skills training. He has worked closely with major CEOs and chairpeople, government officials, communications professionals and even TV hosts.

Grant was formerly a senior journalist at The Australian Financial Review and has written for other leading technology and business publications in Australia and overseas. At Editor Group, he regularly writes and edits speeches, annual reports and other material for executives and marketing groups within leading companies and government bodies. 

Prior to journalism, Grant completed editorial, PR and lobbying assignments and internships in the US, the UK and Japan. He holds an MA in International Communications from Macquarie University and wrote Where's the Loot?, a book about the dot-com boom.

Tony Spencer-Smith

Tony is a leading trainer for Editor Group with extensive experience as a corporate writer and editor, and as a news journalist and novelist working in Australia and South Africa. He presents a range of Editor Group courses, from Proofreading and Grammar to Write Like Obama. 

Tony has delivered training courses with Editor Group since 2004, before which he was Editor-in-Chief of Australian Reader's Digest magazine. Prior to joining Reader's Digest in 1995, Tony was a senior newspaper journalist. He worked for many years on a number of major metropolitan newspapers as columnist, reporter, news editor and reviewer.

He has also had two novels published, one of which won the biggest literary prize in South Africa. As a corporate writer and editor, he was worked with leading CEOs and other top executives within major government and commercial organisations.



 

Frank Chamberlin

Frank Chamberlin presents our Powerful Writing for Professionals course in Melbourne. As well as being a successful corporate writer, he is an experienced writing trainer and a teacher in the Master in Marketing course at Monash University, where he is well known for his lively, informative and engaging style.

Frank taught the Marketing Association's Direct Marketing Certificate Course in Melbourne for seven years until 2005 and has been presenting the Foundations Course since its inception in 2006.

Before opening his own writing consultancy, where he specialises in direct marketing copy, Frank spent four years as direct marketing specialist at AXA Australia.

 

  

Megan Sheerin

Megan Sheerin gives two of our specialist courses: Internal Communications: Writing to Inform and Engage, and Web Content that Works.

 

A professional copywriter and communication strategist with over 10 years experience in employee and online communications, journalism, copywriting and change management, Megan is an expert at writing for a range of audiences and media.

 

Megan's past and present clients include Austrade, Australia Post, George Weston Foods, Impact Employee Communications (one of only two global agencies specialising in employee communications), Ogilvy PR Worldwide, St.George Bank and Vodafone.

 

This wealth of knowledge and experience enables Megan to help others engage both employees and external audiences through the power of writing - whether on the web, or via an internal newsletter, speech or brochure.

 

Megan holds a Bachelor of Communication Studies majoring in journalism from New Zealand's University of Technology.

 

Libby Varcoe

Libby Varcoe gives our specialist Web Content That Works course. She established herself as one of Australia's first online copywriters in 1997. Her past and present clients include Microsoft, ninemsn, National Museum of Australia, NSW Premier's Department, Optus, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Qantas.

With hundreds of websites and online campaigns under her cyberbelt, Libby is an expert in helping others adapt their print writing skills to the web. Her non-technical training sessions are jargon-free, yet packed with practical advice and professional tips that are essential for anyone preparing website or intranet copy, from product managers to marketing and communications staff.

Libby also writes educational comic scripts for Streetwize Communications, targeting at-risk youth. She holds a BA in Social Science and is currently completing a Masters Degree in Professional Writing at UTS.
