Grant Butler, Managing Director

Grant founded Editor Group and continues to work closely with clients on editorial projects and as a trainer. He was formerly IT Editor at The Australian Financial Review and has written for many other leading technology and business publications in Australia and overseas.

Prior to entering journalism, Grant completed editorial, PR and lobbying assignments and internships in Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. He holds an MA in International Communications from Macquarie University, Sydney, and wrote Where's the Loot? (PDF of full book, 2.9MB) about building businesses during the dot-com boom.

As a public speaker, Grant is well placed to comment on:

  • Business writing and editing skills, with a focus on the art of writing thought leadership material.
  • Marketing/business development at professional service firms.
  • The dot-com boom in Australia and the lessons for entrepreneurs seeking to cash in on the next big thing.

 



Charmaine Teoh, Editorial Services Director

Charmaine is responsible for overseeing Editor Group's writing and editing operations. In addition to leading accounts, she is an experienced writer and editor. Her portfolio of work includes annual reports, case studies, brochures, media releases, newsletters, websites and magazine articles.

Charmaine was previously a staff writer and sub-editor at POL Publications, and a production and client support manager for AC Nielsen. She holds a Communications degree from Macquarie University, Sydney.



Paul Best, Senior Writer & Editor (Melbourne)

Paul has extensive experience in writing about business, technology, education, food and other topics in a lively and engaging way. He was a former staff writer and editor on sections of the The Age (and The Sydney Morning Herald) newspapers such as Green Guide, Livewire and Next. He has also written for organisations including Sony, Gill & Cetti Advertising and Global Wireless magazine in the United States.

Rachael Cann, Senior Writer & Editor

Rachael writes and edits a wide range of material for a number of Editor Group's largest clients. She specialises in custom publications, style guides and advertising copywriting. Her recent work includes Gilbert + Tobin's summer clerk magazine and Lend Lease's design yearbook and global language style guide.  

Rachael contributes to The Sun Herald and was formerly a features writer at Pacific Magazines, a Legal Editor at the Lawbook Co. (Thomson Reuters), and a PR and marketing executive. She holds an Arts/Law degree from The University of Sydney, AWARD School art direction and copywriting qualifications and a Fairfax journalism traineeship.  

Byron Connolly, Senior Writer & Editor

Byron has over 12 years experience as a technology writer and editor. He was formerly Editor at technology and business magazine CRN and a senior journalist at ITNews. He has also contributed to technology titles Information Week, PC Week and Pacific Computer Weekly, and worked in PR as Client Services Director at Upstream Australia. Byron holds a Diploma in Journalism from Macleay College, Sydney.

Josh Mehlman, Online Strategy Leader

Josh is an experienced corporate writer, editor and internet strategy professional who has worked for a wide range of corporate, government and media organisations. He is former editor of award-winning magazines Nett and Technology & Business, and has written about information technology for some of Australia's best-known IT and general news publications, including The Australian, The Bulletin, iTnews and ZDNet Australia. At Editor Group, he specialises in helping clients craft effective online communications and develop successful online content strategies.

Olivia McDowell, Proofreader & Editor

Olivia is a dedicated proofreader and editor with a First Class Honours Degree in Law from the University of Technology Sydney. She works for a broad range of Editor Group clients as well as ensuring the quality of internal work before its release to clients. Prior to Editor Group she worked for Specifier Magazine, focused on the architecture and development industry.

Iain Ferguson, Senior Writer & Editor 

Iain is a leading corporate writer, editor and journalist, with more than 15 years experience in writing and business. Prior to joining Editor Group, he was News Editor at ZDNet , Singapore correspondent for The Australian Financial Review, Editor of MIS Australia and a contributor to MIS Asia and Business Online Asia. Iain has also worked as a media relations officer at the Road Transport Forum and written about the transport and aviation sectors for Daily Commercial News. Iain completed a degree in Journalism at the University of Canberra.

Phil Radford, Senior Writer & Editor

Phil is a versatile copywriter and business analyst. Before joining Editor Group, he was lead copywriter at Sooncorp, a mobile communications investment company. Phil was previously a corporate copywriter in Singapore for clients including HVN, Microsoft and NEC, and has held roles at the Lowy Institute for International Policy, the London-based telecoms analysis group Spectrum Strategy Consultants, and Andersen Consulting, also in London, where he consulted on change management. Phil holds an economics-focused MA in International Relations from The University of Sydney and a BA from the University of Oxford.

Mark Phillips, Specialist Writer & Editor

Mark is a highly experienced writer, journalist and editor. Prior to joining Editor Group, he was Editor of Risk Management Magazine within LexisNexis Media. Over the course of his time with LexisNexis, he also worked on or edited Lawyers Weekly, HR Leader, The Australian Corporate Lawyer, OHS Professional and the monthly newsletter title Australasian Risk Management. Mark's earlier roles include editing Company Director magazine for the Australian Institute of Company Directors, editing Marketing Magazine and contributing to The Bulletin, The Australian and the former Ansett in-flight magazine Panorama.

Evelyn Freeland, Office Manager

Before joining Editor Group in July 2008, Evelyn pursued two distinct careers. The first was as a librarian with TAFE NSW, and the second was with her family's financial planning business as Administration Manager. Evelyn brings experience from both to her new role as Office Manager for Editor Group.
