Josh Mehlman Appointed as Online Strategy Leader

Editor Group has appointed Josh Mehlman as Online Strategy Leader. In this role, Mehlman will advise Editor Group clients on how to structure and present content online, optimise their websites for search engine performance, build online communities and use social media in their marketing. He will also deliver writing and editing services.

"As someone who has been involved with the Internet since the beginning, Josh has a range of  experience and technical skills to offer clients as they seek to launch or improve their performance online - particularly when it comes to the structure and language used within their sites," says Grant Butler, Editor Group Managing Director.

Mehlman is an experienced corporate writer, editor and internet strategy professional who has worked for a wide range of corporate, government and media organisations. He returns to Editor Group after nearly two years editing Nett, Australia's highest circulating small business magazine, which helps SME owners and entrepreneurs make the most of online technologies.

"Many businesses and government organisations have websites up, because you've got to have a website, but it is obvious they really aren't sure what they're for," Mehlman says. "A website performs best when you're very clear about the goals you want to achieve from it and each page contributes something towards that purpose."

He will help Editor Group clients review the quality and effectiveness of their websites and craft new approaches to content creation, information architecture, search and social media optimisation, audio and video integration and publishing processes.

"Nowadays everyone says they do search engine optimisation, from big ad agencies to the one-person web design firms, but there's a lot more to it than just stuffing a page with keywords," says Mehlman. "The only truly effective search optimisation strategy is to continually create content that is useful and interesting to your target audience."

Mehlman has written extensively on business and technology issues for publications including Nett magazine, ZDNet.com.au, The Australian and Banking Technology. He also worked on the Sydney Morning Herald's Walkley Award-winning Sydney 2000 Olympics website. He maintains a strong personal online presence and has advised businesses on web and social media strategy at conferences and online seminars. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Melbourne University, and worked at Editor Group as a Senior Writer and Review Editor from 2004 to 2008.
